AFL secures a five-year $25m partnership with Crypto.com

Crypto.com becomes official cryptocurrency marketplace and exchange of men’s and women’s leagues

The Australian Football League has landed a monumental five-year partnership with leading cryptocurrency marketplace and exchange, Crypto.com. Per the AFL’s website, “the new partnership will see Crypto.com become the Official Cryptocurrency Exchange and Official Cryptocurrency Trading Platform of AFL and AFLW”. The Singapore based cryptocurrency marketplace and exchange will also have exclusive naming rights for the “Crypto.com AFL Score Review”, across all Toyota AFL season and Final Series matches.

Crypto.com is on a mission to accelerate the world’s transition to cryptocurrency. It is an exchange that supports not only trading and investing, but staking, wallets, NFTs and more.

The deal, for both the AFL and AFLW, is said to be one of the most lucrative sporting deals in the country, with the AFLW becoming the first women’s elite sports league to partner with the cryptocurrency platform, and the AFL being the first Australian sports league to partner with Crypto.com. They will join other lucrative partnerships with Crypto.com, who as of recent times have been on a sponsorship spending spree, partnering with the UFC, Paris Saint-Germain, Montreal Canadiens, Philadelphia 76ers, Formula 1, the Italian Serie A and recently, has taken over the name of the Staples Centre, the multipurpose venue that hosts the LA Lakers, Sparks and Kings.

AFL CEO Gillon McLachlan ecstatically detailed that “cryptocurrency and blockchain technology is a dynamic and emerging industry, and the AFL is delighted to partner with Crypto.com to be at the forefront of the industry’s growth in Australia”. Moreover, Kylie Rogers, the AFL Executive General Manager Customer and Commercial was also very happy to be with the leading cryptocurrency exchange, exclaiming “Crypto.com has partnered with a number of elite sporting codes across the world and the AFL is proud to be the first Australian sports league and elite women’s competition globally to work alongside an organisation that shares our passion to progress the future of elite sport and technology”.

Kris Marszalek, the Crypto.com co-founder and chief executive said “we are committed to investing in Australia, a key market and leader in cryptocurrency adoption, contributing to our rapid growth of over ten million users globally”. Additionally, Crypto.com General Manager Asia & Pacific, Karl Mohan went on to explain his beliefs in the AFL’s gender diversity as an important factor in their decision making, stating “our latest consumer research in Australia found that more than half (53%) of crypto investors were females. It is very encouraging to see that Australians from all walks of life, irrespective of gender or background, are very keen to adopt cryptocurrencies, and we’re excited about being their go-to platform…The AFL has led the way to bring gender diversity to Australian sport and we believe this partnership will resonate well with all footy fans across the country. We couldn’t be happier with the timing of this partnership at a moment when more Australians are engaging with cryptocurrency and the Australian Government is taking steps to put necessary regulations in place to protect consumers while fostering innovation”.

The partnership looks to facilitate the expansion of cryptocurrency in an already powerful market, as well as driving the innovation of blockchain technology, services and cryptocurrency products throughout the sports industry.
